CRSI Recognizes Vargo & Rippetoe for 15 Years of Service!

Trudi Vargo
Trudi Vargo
Congratulations to Trudi Vargo, a DSM in Auglaize County who has spent the past 15 years with CRSI!

Trudi started as a part-time DSP working with 15 individuals at the Licensed group home in Auglaize County & worked part-time at another location. When a position opened, Trudi moved to full-time at the group home.  After about a year and a half, Trudi moved to a full-time manager position in Van Wert.  She worked in Van Wert for about a year & transferred back to Auglaize County, where for the last 12+ years she has been a full-time manager, providing oversite to different combinations of two homes, and at one time, Trudi was managing 3 different locations.  Most recently, in addition to managing, Trudi also assists with payroll processing, entries, & corrections as well as running reports for Care Tracker.

When asked what has been the most rewarding during her years with CRSI, Trudi said seeing the positive changes, less restrictions, & more person-centered outcomes for the consumers.  She also said she values the friendships from staff & noted that Tanya Stauffer, her Program Spec (who has been with CRSI 17 years!) and Sue Ulis, her Program Administrator (who's been with CRSI for 26.5 years!) are the only original employees in Auglaize County from when she started.  Tanya, Sue, & Trudi enjoyed a socially distanced lunch at the Auglaize office to celebrate Trudi’s years with CRSI.

We also celebrate Kristy Rippetoe, PS in Van Wert County, for her 15 years with CRSI. Congratulations Kristy!

Kristy worked FT at a workshop in Williams County, and for extra income, she came to work for CRSI as a part-time DSP at a drop-in site in Defiance County.  She said that over the years, her position with CRSI became about the individuals, not about the income.

In 2019, Kristy came to Van Wert County as the full-time Program Specialist.  Kristy said she has enjoyed working with the individuals, seeing what they are capable of, teaching them, & learning from them.  She said they have definitely taught her patience.  Kristy was unable to attend our recognition lunch.

The federal government would track the number of direct support professionals for the first time ever under a new proposal designed to help address a shortage of workers to assist people with disabilities.

A bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives on Monday would change the way that the government categorizes direct support professionals.

Currently, these workers are lumped in with home health care aides in the system used by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to monitor workforce trends. Advocates say that category is far too broad and leads to a lack of reliable information about how many people across the nation are employed as direct support professionals and where more are needed.

Tattoos to Remember

CRSI Staff Tattoos
L-R: Chelsea Mumford, support specialist; Theresa Brake, support specialist; Brenda Knife, support manager; Lanie Barnes, support specialist; Stacey Miller, support specialist; Susan Cooper, support specialist.
Troy, Ohio - When Bev Studebaker passed away of cancer in 2015, her care-givers wanted to memorialize her and others who lost their lives to the disease. Bev was an individual served by CRSI since 1982, and the staff felt very close to her. Nicknamed “Peanut”, she is remembered for her great personality.

According to Brenda Knife, home manager, Bev meant a lot to those at the Walnut St. group home and they wanted to be reminded of her everyday by tattooing their wrists with the lavender ribbon for cancer.

The idea is the brainchild of Lanie Barnes, support specialist who planned to get the tattoo in memory of everyone she’s lost to cancer, including Bev. The other staff members fell in love with the idea and they each jumped in with wrist forward.
