March is National DD Awareness Month
Each year, during March – Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month – and all year long, CRSI focuses on peoples’ abilities and similarities rather than differences and encourages everyone to welcome people with developmental disabilities into their communities. Many new opportunities are emerging in this spirit throughout the state, including community-based employment options and residential opportunities that more fully integrate people with disabilities. The 2015 theme for DD Awareness Month reflects this spirit — “Can Do, Like You!”
DD Awareness Month combined with the annual Advocacy Day activities are to be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Ohio Statehouse. According to Kathy Rader, advocacy director, “In keeping with CRSI’s mission, CRSI individuals are encouraged to receive the assistance of their staff to register and attend.”
Online registration for the 2015 Developmental Disabilities Awareness & Advocacy Day is now available. Each person must register (including support staff). Registration is free.
This year’s theme is, “Can Do! Like You”. The program will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. in the Statehouse Atrium featuring speakers with disabilities who will inspire you to set your own goals and pursue your life’s passion. Space is limited. Registration will remain open until all slots are filled or until Friday, February 13, 2015, whichever comes first, according to www.ohiosibs.com
