Date: February 2011
March is Ohio’s celebration of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and is an annual opportunity for Ohio’s developmental disabilities community to raise public awareness of the many abilities that people with disabilities have, according to information provided by Ohio Public Images.
Annually, the organization provides the industry with a theme along with posters and artwork.
The 2011 theme, “Together” focuses on peoples’ similarities rather than differences, and encourages everyone to welcome people with disabilities into their communities. The event will focus on the many opportunities emerging in this spirit throughout the state.
In the past, CRSI has used the images provided by Ohio Public Images in advertising and other materials to celebrate DD Awareness Month. This year, CRSI images are being used to create a series of similar posters to replicate the Ohio Public Images campaign..
The photo in the poster above has been named “The Hug” and was taken during filming for various CRSI marketing videos. It was a spontaneous, genuine and unplanned moment. It features Mindy Adkins (L), habilitation specialist working with the Adult Day Services program in Urbana; and Drucilla Manuel, a participant in the program.
