Champaign Residential Services,  Inc.

Than Johnson, CEO of Champaign Residential Services, Inc., is one of seven Ohioans invited to attend the National Summit on Disability Policy held July 25-28 in Washington, D.C. The date coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26.

Sponsored by the National Council on Disability (NCD), a presidentially appointed committee, the Summit’s main objectives are to identify emerging and cross-cutting opportunities to enhance living, learning and earning for people with disabilities; establish new mechanisms and build upon existing ones to improve coordination and implementation of disability policies, programs and practices; and energize collaborative networks to guide future development of disability policy.

The NCD met with representatives from all fifty states to discuss future challenges and directions for citizens living with any disability. Johnson represents Ohio providers of developmental disability services.

Johnson has served as president of the national organization, ANCOR (American Network of Community Options and Resources); and currently is president of OPRA (Ohio Provider Resource Association). He received an appointment by President Bush to the National Advisory Council for Medicare/Medicaid (CMS) and continues to serve in an advisory role.

Johnson serves locally on the boards of the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, Champaign Improvement Corporation (CIC), Champaign Family YMCA, Champaign County Library; and recently retired after eighteen years as a trustee for Clark State.

Johnson states, “The invitation to participate in a national dialogue with the NCD is an honor and I greatly appreciate the opportunity to impact future supports for citizens with disabilities.”

CRSI provides developmental disability and other community services to over seven hundred individuals across thirty Ohio counties; and it employs over twelve hundred people throughout the counties served.  Governed by a Board of Trustees, the corporate office is located in Urbana; with regional offices in Springfield, Lima, Wapakoneta, Bellefontaine, Troy, Defiance, Columbus and London. Developmental disability services are provided in coordination with county boards of DD in each individual county.
