Health Fair includes local farmer's market - open to the public
As a community service, Champaign Residential Services, Inc. is again sponsoring the annual CRSI Health Fair on Wednesday, September 14.
A new, healthful twist has been added to an already large array of vendors who are participating in this year’s event. Fifteen local enterprises will set up an outdoor, open-air market; selling products such as chemical-free produce, organic garlic, berries, pumpkins, desserts, meat, bread, ice cream, soap, mums and more. The outdoor market will be set up outside the new CRSI building located next to Trenor’s on Route 36. Parking is available at Trenor’s.
“We wanted to bring in our local growers to provide a healthy eating, healthy lifestyle theme to our already large health fair program that is free and open to the public,” said Sandy Loffing, project chair.
Inside, the CRSI Health Fair has sixty more vendors with many offering important opportunities for free screenings and evaluations such as blood pressure, cholesterol, visual, hearing, dental, massage, bone density, fitness and much more. All inside vendors will be giving away free information or free samples and will be available to provide answers to frequent questions about their services. The health fair will be located inside the new building off Route 36 which also houses A Kids Learning Place.
Also new this year is AAA; offering a free drive-through, seven-step auto maintenance inspection and a free plastic spare key for the wallet. AAA will be set up in the front parking lot of CRSI along Route 29.
While most of the screenings and evaluations are free, there are also a few services available for a fee. The Medicine Shoppe is offering the H1N1/seasonal combined flu vaccine and the pneumonia vaccine with most insurance plans accepted. Springfield Urology is offering a PSA lab test for men in recognition of September being National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and limited time-slots will be available from Acupuncture Alternative Medicine, Jessie Nicols-Barney.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the event; the grand prize is a flat screen TV. The CRSI Health Fair runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. this coming Wednesday.
