CRSI to Provide Services in Hancock Co.

By LINDA D. SMITH, Public Relations Director

Champaign Residential Services,  Inc.

Based on the success of the Champaign Residential Services, Inc. (CRSI) Adult Day Services program in Urbana, the Hancock County Board of Developmental Disabilities (HCBDD) has chosen CRSI to develop a similar program in Findlay as part of their federal Medicaid program. After an extensive bidding process and a visit to the Urbana program, the HCBDD Board of Trustees chose CRSI to provide day habilitation services to a group of residents from Blanchard Valley Residential. The new program will serve as an alternative to county operated services.

After being selected, CRSI then assisted in developing a renovation plan for the program site and provided program information to families and guardians in an effort to make a smooth transition to a new program

The Hancock Co. adult day program will focus on individualized needs for socialization, community connections, sensory integration or other assessed needs based on each individual.   A monthly calendar outlines daily activities that provide an enriching environment for individuals in the program.  An important aspect, which follows CRSI’s mission and philosophy, is centered on an individual’s ability to choose from a variety of activities offered on a particular day; or to develop a self-directed activity. The program is lead by Stephen Barnes, program services administrator.

“CRSI is very proud to be chosen to provide this innovative approach of active treatment through an adult day services program. We appreciate the foresight of the (Hancock) county board in looking toward the future,” said Than Johnson, CEO.

Urbana’s Adult Day Services program was created in 2006 and currently provides services at corporate headquarters for thirty-four local residents who enjoy either recreational or vocational opportunities, of their choice, throughout the work week.
