Hancock Co. ADS Program up and running   By LINDA D. ANDERSON SMITH
Public Relations Director
Champaign Residential Services Inc.

Findlay: The new Adult Day Services (ADS) program is up and running in Hancock County where thirteen people enjoy daily leisure and recreational activities. It was announced in the July Advocate that the Hancock County Board of Developmental Disabilities selected CRSI to develop the program.

A new staff led by ADS manager Shannon Hazelton is in place according to Steve Barnes, program services administrator. Hazelton graduated from North Central State in Mansfield and has twelve years experience as an activities therapist for people with developmental disabilities. She has also worked in the Columbus Public School system.

The program has been named Thompson Place after the couple who donated the land to the Blanchard Valley Center (Hancock Co. Board of DD) and later gave the board the opportunity to purchase the house situated close to the Center. The home is a beautiful ranch style brick with plenty of space for daily activities. Various rooms have been designated for games and exercise, calming/sensory, art & leisure, TV and movies; along with a beautiful sun room, kitchen, laundry space and a staff office.

Superintendent Kim Miller of the Union County Board offered his perspective of the importance of forming partnerships to provide services in each county, “I read in the CRSI Advocate where your agency has been selected to develop adult day service alternatives for the Hancock Co. Board of DD. That is no small accomplishment. I am sure that HCBDD did a thorough job of selecting their service partner who can best meet the needs of the board and the individuals receiving services. I am convinced that those kinds of partnerships are critical to our future success on behalf of individuals…and their families in Ohio.” He went on to say, “It is reassuring to know that we have a major service partner (CRSI) in our county who has demonstrated successes not only in our county but also with other county boards.”

Thompson Place operates Monday through Friday with consumers arriving at 9 a.m. and leaving at 2:45 p.m.
